"I like the way you think".
I heard our first lady say something extremely powerful in an interview with Oprah a couple days ago, that just moved my spirit to joy. Oprah was interviewing the 1st couple and asking them how they balance it all, and how envied they could be because they seem so perfectly in love. Michelle answered the question so gracefully and exquisitely. Here is an excerpt.
Oprah : Is this a marriage to be envied?
Michelle: I think we have a wonderful marriage. I love my husband, he is my best friend. But I always like to talk honestly about it, because I think about young couples coming up who think there are no struggles to get here. There are and that's part of it. The message is, work through the struggles, start out with somebody that you respect and you trust, so that when you hit the bumps that are inevitable, you always have that foundation. I tell Barack, as mad as he may make me, I look at him and say "I really LIKE you". I like you and I like the way you think and I like the person that you are, and its hard to stray too far and to be mad too long when the person you are with is someone you like.
So incredible and so well versed. This personally captures the essence of REAL, TRUE, GENUINE love for me. To actually LIKE the person before you LOVE them, will prove the strength and the dedication to you staying where you are. DO you LIKE him? Do you like her? Do you like her traits? Do you like who they are in relation to their world that you exist in? Do you like how they talk to people? How they handle situations? How they make people feel? How they THINK? How they live? What they like to do? What makes them tick?
The road and and path to love and having the ultimate level of understanding is not easy nor smooth. Even when Love is great and things seem too perfect, it takes your attention and commitment to maintaining it and keeping it that way. You have to always put that other person's feelings in mind and work together to making sure that the both of you are happy, and if that is not intense work then what it?
As humans, it is hard for us to be content all the time, we allow so many variables to come in and disturb our momentum and test our faith on what we believe to be "working". I 100% know and believe that love is TEAM WORK and it will Be the most important collaboration that you Will ever take part in, in your life.
When we have love, and stability we feel good. We feel alive and we are in touch with the higher consciousness that resides in us all. We allow the GOD in us to seep out and be a source of light and inspiration for all around us.
Allow GOD to work through you more. Accept love when it comes your way and always give it to others. Love in all capacities is what releases us to living the life that was intended. Give plenty of it...out.
LOVE.
Have a Tasty Tuesday.

Age of subliminality....
Since President Obama has been in office I have noticed that every single action, thought and idea that he has taken has been publicly scrutinized and criticized beyond belief. I know for a fact (and I have been on this planet 26 years) that I have never seen any other President receive so much blatant disrespect from the media in all my life. I am the first to say yes, Bush was disrespected by the citizens of the world ALL THE TIME, and made fun of because of his lack of a brain and trailer park demeanor, BUT the media held a certain respect when speaking of him or about him.
My friend brought this to my attention this week when he clearly showed me an example of CNN referring to PRESIDENT OBAMA as ...Barack Obama. Believe it or not many of the cable news channels are refraining from addressing him as President. I am not going to focus on this, this issue of race with just Obama, because there have been countless examples of racism since he has taken office, and all I can do is SMH till I am dizzy because "Really, are we still at this level of stupidity"?
It was also brought to my attention that 21 states have applied for sovereignty since President Obama has taken office. If you do not know what this means, Sovereignty is the exclusive right to control a government, a country, a people, or oneself. A sovereign is a supreme lawmaking authority. So if a state like Arizona (one of the 8 who have applied already, including, Hawaii, Montana, Michigan, Missouri, New Hampshire, Oklahoma and Washington.) is granted sovereignty then they rule itself as a state alone and will be seen as a lawmaking, state that controls what it does OUTSIDE of our central government. Which goes against any sort of UNITED STATES. There will be no UNITED anything if states are being seen as separate ruling entities.
Of course the justification for this nonsense is President Obama's stimulus plan that he has introduced, but the truth is and I BELIEVE that some of these states cannot accept a black man running their government. It is a sad day. Very sad. This man has proven himself intellectually on sooo many levels, and his capabilities of handling this job. I don't think the qualifications before him or the standard before him was set as high as he has made it sense taking office. YET, people will still not accept him for who he is.
I am seeing the news (papers & television ) actually give light and cover irrelevant news to add on to the ignorance. I know it is to brainwash others into accepting this nonsense. A bakery owner in Chelsea made offensive "Obama cookies" with huge over exaggerated lips and a nose and sold them to the public. His justification was "it was in celebration of Obama's win". Why is the NEWS covering this? Why give light and attention to it? That is the problem. People like him will exist but to give him air time and attention..just gives him light.
People have lost their minds and it is just a reflection of the energy that is amongst us. You must take a stand and have your voice heard when you hear and see such ignorance. How can you sit quietly?
I for one am always ready to shut down anyone who is in the line of TRYING to say anything disrespectful or sideways about this administration. It used to really shock me when I saw Bush supporters, or just people who accept and believe the lies that IS this country at times. But they exist, and the answer is never to yell, scream and kick but to take a second to think and respond in a way that is a reflection of your higher self.
I think President Obama did an exceptional job at addressing the stupidity of the NY POST. He simply did not. As the rest of us got excited, hot and bothered, he was still on his grind, doing his job and did not give them the privilege of seeing him break a sweat in the midst of their ridiculous antics.
I am not watching ANY cable news for the next month purposely because I feel it is unhealthy for my mind. I cannot take in such toxic information. I have been more interested in spending time with those close to me, writing, reading, planning, eating, loving... you get the drift.
It does not hurt for you to be mindful what you choose to take in as well!
Love you fab people!

Loosen up MRS. MICHELLE OBAMA!
Yes, everyone says this mans style, confidence and overall swagger is off the charts...but to watch that man with his woman made my heart melt! Its the way he looks and glances over at her and the way she looks at him .... YOU feel the love popping right off the screen! When was the last time America watched a real life romance unfold right before our eyes.
Now don't get me wrong..I love Michelle for the strong, dedicated woman she is to those beautiful girls, and the intelligence and sacrificed she has made for her family. Let us not forget this woman can be making six figures some place with her Harvard law degree, yet she quit and sacrifice her own career to create another one standing beside her husband. I respect this about her, BUT, I do feel she sometimes needs to LOOSEN UP! She can be really STIFF!
Here I am watching this fine specimen twirl his wife around during their dance, after he just finished saying "How good she looks", and when he twirls her, she shy's up and does not even put the moves on him and embrace that spin! Once again Michelle made me feel like she is not going over the top and head over heels over this man!
I first began to notice the attitude from her on the Barbara Walters special around Thanksgiving when Barbara asked her was she cooking for Thanksgiving, and she responded "NO, My man has just won the Presidency I think I deserve a pass"....EXCUSE ME! Maybe it is me, but if my man won the Presidency I am cooking every dish that he loves JUST BECAUSE, and then some! Many who know me well know I was not impressed by this nonsense, but I had to lighten up because if Barack isn't complaining why should I.
Then I watched her hold the bible as he gave his oath and I saw the genuine LOVE and ADMIRATION this woman had on her face while she looked at her husband and I came to tears. I know what they have is something special! I know he is something special, I just wish she SHOWED us more sometimes.
I guess a part of me wanted to see her shake it and serenade him in that lovely dress and put the first lady moves all over that! I must be honest. I was not impressed with her stiffness, and distraction with her concern for the way she looked to everyone else. That is all you Ms. OBAMA...act like you know!
Then again I had to realize that she is a woman of a certain age and I guess the rage, and sensations that run through my 26 year old body have slowed down for her. She knows what she has, and she knows that he loves her deeply and what the two of them share is not for me or anyone else.
We are privileged to see the doses of love stares, kisses on the cheeks and lips, and small back rubs that the two like to give us every so often! I am being selfish and a bit crazy at times, but my affection runs deep. :)
I wish OUR President a wonderful, joyous, achievable, successful and memorable TWO terms! (He will serve two) In addition, I hope that we all as a collective work to help him do what it is this world needs. It is not just about what Obama can do for us but what we will do WITH him. I end with a excerpt from his inaugural address that I thought captures the point I am trying to make.
"For as much as government can do and must do, it is ultimately the faith and determination of the American people upon which this nation relies. It is the kindness to take in a stranger when the levees break, the selflessness of workers who would rather cut their hours than see a friend lose their job which sees us through our darkest hours. It is the firefighter's courage to storm a stairway filled with smoke, but also a parent's willingness to nurture a child, that finally decides our fate."
Love you all! Have a great weekend!

Do you hear the bell ringing???
"Girl, I am in tears walking to the polls", "Dee there are sooo many people on line and first time voters including my father" " OMG..I feel so empowered" and the list can go on! These were texts from my various friends and family who were ALREADY on their way to the polls, if not there already to BARACK the VOTE!
So I was just sooooo excited after seeing and hearing this. I then got up, got my lil girl dressed and we went on our way to make history. YES the lines were EXTREMELY LONG...EVERYWHERE!
I have never seen this in my 26 years on this planet on election day! NEVER! I don't think anyone has seen it to this magnitude...and to see the YOUNG people was amazing!!!
I am talking young - like 18 getting their vote on early in the morning! The media better acknowledge this and they better know it's not because of ol' puffy cheeks either, and they better report that fairly. The headlines should be "Obama brings out tons of youth to the polls" or "Obama has brought LIFE back into this county and revitalized the democracy that we are supposed to live up to in this nation. "
I am soooo PROUD, sooo PROUD not only because we know how awesome he is but because as an African American woman my heart is full.
Close to 400 years ago my ancestors were brought here from their country to work as slaves to other people's land, farms, industries and to be seen as just another means of production. 40 years ago (JUST 40) 1968...we had another civil rights act signed by Lyndon B. Johnson to the follow up act of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 because we were still being discriminated against, treated less than humane, not being seen or embraced as full citizens with equal rights.
I walk to the polls and with each step I think of those before me who tried to ADD on and make a change. I think of Harriet Tubman who was a strong woman determined not to just sit and accept her life as a slave. I think of Frederick Douglas who was a firm believer in equality and also the 1st black man to run for Vice-Presidency, I think of Nat Turner, Carter G. Woodson, Booker T. Washington, George Washington Carver, W.E.B. Du Boise, Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, Emmitt Till, Rosa Parks.
I think of all my ancestors who shared the same blood line as me and yet I don't know there names I take steps for them.
I take steps for my NANA who is no longer here, who gave me the best years of my life, she would be SOOOOO proud and I could almost here her dotting after Obama saying "He is gonna win it all - that's a fine man".
I think of my Aunt Edna who would have gotten up and gotten ready early to be one of the first to stand in line, because her voice would have been heard first! (She was something - and don't let them do nothing shady at the polls, because you were gonna get told off) ..I take steps for my grandfathers, great aunts, and uncles and all my relatives who have passed on.
They may not be here physically but their working overboard, and they have the best seats in the house.
I look forward to tonight at around maybe 11 PM when the results are in and President Barack Obama gives his acceptance speech! I know I will be crying a river, most likely screaming and I will remember when I heard these words for the 1st time:
"...And so let freedom ring from the prodigious hilltops of New Hampshire.
Let freedom ring from the mighty mountains of New York.
Let freedom ring from the heightening Alleghenies of Pennsylvania.
Let freedom ring from the snow-capped Rockies of Colorado.
Let freedom ring from the curvaceous slopes of California.
But not only that:
Let freedom ring from Stone Mountain of Georgia.
Let freedom ring from Lookout Mountain of Tennessee.
Let freedom ring from every hill and molehill of Mississippi.
From every mountainside, let freedom ring.
And when this happens, when we allow freedom to ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual:
Free at last! Free at last!
Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!³
YES.... I am PROUD and I AM EVEN MORE PROUD TO FINALLY SEE COLOR AS NOT A BARRIER TO GREATNESS, TO SUCCESS, TO ATTAIN YOUR DREAMS!
I LOVE YOU ALL SOOOO MUCH!!!!
HAPPY VOTING!!!!
THE CELEBRATION IS COMING.....
